Upon arrival: Very Important
Upon arrival at the Russian border, all foreigners must fill out a migration card. It is a small sheet of paper perforated in the center. Following completion of this form, one part is taken by the passport control officer, while the student keeps the other part for registration and exit procedures. Border passport control officer will stamp the migration card. This stamp indicates the date of arrival and is required for registration with the Institute. These cards are available onboard international flights and in airports at passport control.
All foreign citizens must be registered within the next business day after their arrival. Therefore, all students are kindly asked to plan their trips so that they can come to our office (room 307) for registration no later than the first business day after their arrival to Russia. A student's passport, visa and migration card are required for registration. The confirmation of registration in the Russian Federation territory is a separate document which indicates the foreign student's full name, citizenship, period of stay and address in Russia. This document may be obtained in office 307 of our Institute.
Our Institute can register only visas which were issued according to our invitations. Registration can be arranged precisely for the period of your study contract. The registration expiration date is the last day when you can stay in Russia legally.
If a student extends his/her study contract, the registration is consequently also extended to the same date. To do so, the student should bring all necessary documents to the Institute 's staff in room 307.
Our Institute works only with student visas. We neither register nor extend business, tourist or any other type of visa.
Russian police and migration services control registration. Therefore, they are allowed to check any person's documents anywhere, including on the street. Therefore all students must follow these simple registration rules.
Students are advised to speak with Institute Staff regarding any extension details to avoid any problems or misunderstandings. Please contact us with any questions.
